IT’S GOAL AND FUNCTION IS TO GET YOU MOVING
AND THEN KEEP YOU MOVING!

My name is Joy and my philosophy about fitness is pretty basic – I want to promote health and well being – and incorporate fun while doing it. So no matter if you are a novice, an athlete or a long time gym-goer, my personal training expertise can benefit your current state of being. Let me light the fire to awaken your inner child that wants to move – be active - and feel alive. I hope to inspire, motivate and educate you, as well as be your support system as I lead you on your fitness journey.
I am a breast cancer survivor (almost 6 years now) and I have been through the trudges of disability. So believe me I know challenge, and whatever yours may be - together - we can get you through it! We can make a difference – we can make THE difference. By allowing me the pleasure of showing you discipline, technique and form, all the while executing your program safely, the results are yours for the taking. You will gain strength, energy, flexibility and peace….as well as a healthier lifestyle and an overall sense of well being.
After the final stages of healing cancer, my life started to resume some normality; however, the following year I was confronted with a disability that ended my 30 year occupation and totally altered my life. I was in no way going to let this control me - nor give up or in. About a year later, after writing a book and processing the many emotions involved (as well as giving my body some healing time), I chose to transform my affliction’s aftermath into a new career incorporating my passion for health and wellness that I have held so dear to me for so long. I became nationally certified through the International Sports Sciences of America and so my past and present love of athletics, exercise and training, along with my newfound education have all come together into a profession whereby I am blessed to assist others with their health and wellness. So believe me, I know you can do this. You can conquer your objectives and your challenges – take it from one who has been there over and over.
There are so many facets of good health - and an exercise program is just one piece of the pie. There is a mind/body connection indeed and sometimes, the extra emotional push and support is all one needs. Let me be your guide into this multidimensional world. Good health will be the priority as we encompass fun, challenge and a more resilient you. And on top of that, personal training gives one self-accomplishment, self-discipline, self-esteem, and of course, the dessert – a leaner physique – you at your best.
Your customized program will not only include effective and fun workouts but the calculation of your personal numbers; whereby I can instruct you with realistic goals, and calorie intake and expenditure - all of which will then give you the foundation for a good nutrition plan. I will also share and inform you of the many options, food choices and even my personal recipes (I love to cook; and as a cancer survivor, knowledge of good healthy foods is a must). You are what you eat is right; with respect to how you look and feel and the status of your health, good nutrition is not only a plus, but a must!
So, The JOY of Training is the key to your body. It is a lifestyle, not a diet nor empty promises – it is not a fix it all, it is not an everything you need is in this little pill, or a one size program fits all. Those methods are all myths. All you have to do is accept this key – use it/turn it - and watch your life evolve. The JOY of Training is YOUR program, and I know you will feel the difference, see the difference and LIVE the difference.
Alright then! So I believe in you – do you?
Then have a little faith in me and I will help you move mountains.
With Your Health In Mind… Joy

Post Script: For Those Who Want A Peek At My Fitness History
I believe as we get older it is not just our drive or laziness that stops us from “playing” and enjoying sports and an active life. Besides the hustle and bustle of life, sometimes it is the lack of the environment of it all. I was lucky and even though a lot of the options disappeared, I managed to hold true to my active lifestyle and stay “moving”. I am also blessed to live in this beautiful small beach town – an environment where walking and biking is a way of life - safe and convenient. Still, there are opportunities available to you (i.e., ME!)
I began my most serious training regimen about 5 years ago right after healing cancer, and have to date been trained by 3 excellent trainers - all with different techniques and strengths. I now train myself.
I have been an athlete my whole life starting with swimming at 4 years old subsequently becoming an AAU swimmer (Amateur Athletic Union) then on to most childhood sports imaginable - from playing wiffel ball with my older brothers and sisters (and always getting the prize of running after the ball) to “kick the can”, “ball” games, ballroom and freestyle dancing, and walking and biking everywhere. After that, I eventually participated in most adult sports at one point or another. Gymnastics, dancing and softball remained focal to me.
I also stayed true to my dancing, bike riding, skating, softball and yes, even the occasional bowling. Then in my 20s I found myself actually “working out” in my home to televised aerobic type programs; and then along came videos/dvds. It was and has been a staple in my life for a long time. To this date, I have acquired almost every workout accessible on video/dvd, including Tae Bo, Budokon, Kukuwa, Kundalini Yoga, Yoga and Pilates, as well as many many dance tapes and most every other form of exercise possible. My library consists of over 60 tapes/dvds. I can guide you for independent home direction on this also.
My gym training started about 15 years ago when I worked for a top medical company who endorsed wellness while advocating programs for their employees. They not only had a gym onsite but offered various free classes for us – hence, my first kick boxing style class (actually called Savate). My childhood passion of sports and physical activity rekindled and I was training most days in the gym on my lunch hour. This was my first real introduction to resistance machines and weights. Overall, I have kept a solid fitness regimen for over 15 years, but actually really, my whole life. Living by the beach I personally enjoy “ocean” workouts (which started out as walking/jogging) but now I incorporate so much more into them for a full body workout and a great feel! I offer this beautiful venue to my clients also.
